It's 'back-to-school' for Hancock area students
The 2009-2010 school year at Hancock Public Schools will begin on Tuesday, September 8 with classes starting at 8:25 a.m. On the first day of school, all elementary students will go directly to their classrooms. School personnel will meet students and help them find their classroom. Secondary students are to meet in the gym at 8:25 a.m. Following a short orientation, students will report to first hour classes.
Letters have gone out to parents of registered students and on the first day of school Student Handbooks will be distributed and reviewed with students. Parents are asked to also read through the handbooks as a few changes have been made.
Those who wish to drive should bring their driver's license and car description to the school office. A note from the parents/guardians giving permission will also be needed before the student is allowed to drive during the school year.
Prior to the start of school, milk and activity tickets can be purchased in the school office. Prices are $1.60 per meal or $32 for 20 punches for grades K-3; $1.70 per meal or $34 for 20 punches for grades 4-12 and $45 for the year for milk break for elementary students.
Activity tickets are available at ten punches per ticket. Student prices are $3 per event, but a 10-event ticket can be purchased for $20. Adult prices are $56 per event but a 10-event ticket can be purchased for $36. An adult season ticket can be purchased for $84. Music event admission prices will be $1 for students and $3 for adults.
Students participating in extra curricular activities will be asked to pay a participation fee. The fee is $20 for each junior high activity and $30 for each senior high activity. No family will pay more than $120 per year, however. The fees should be paid prior to the first event. If this is a hardship for any family please call the administration about a waiver of fees.
The first sporting events will take place this week. The volleyball team will play at home on September 8. The football team will face Bertha-Hewitt there this Friday night and will play Wheaton at home on September 11. Schedules for fall and winter sports are available at the school, Hancock Record or in area businesses.
