Jergenson tosses no-hitter against Kerkhoven
The American Legion Auxiliary Post 29, also known as the Two-Niners (29ers), started the season the way most Spring sports start… with a postponement. Though it wasn’t for weather related reasons, the game against Clinton that was scheduled for Monday, June 9 has been rescheduled into a doubleheader on July 8 in Chokio. On Tuesday, June 10, the Two-Niners began their season, hosting Kerkhoven at Chizek Field in Morris.
Morris 10, Kerkhoven 0
Bryce Jergenson tossed a no-hitter and VFW call-up Denner Dougherty went 4-for-4 to help Morris shut out Kerkhoven 10-0 Tuesday in its opener.
Jergenson did walk four batters, but recent Morris Area High School graduate struck out nine and got plenty of support in the six-inning contest.
Morris batted nine in a three-run first inning and a five-run fifth. Dougherty laced a two-run single in the first, singled in another run in the third and ended the game in the sixth with a one-out single that knocked in Noah Grove.
Corey Storck added RBI singles in the first and fifth, and Joey Dufault scored twice by supplying Morris with two singles. Also driving in runs in the fifth with singles were Ryan Dietz and Ryan Bowman.
Morris is at Brandon-Evansville on today (Thursday, June 12).
