Joan Bjorklund, age 70, of rural Lake Lillian died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 at Willmar Commons Nursing Home. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson with Rev. Art Wiese officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and on Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Joan Bjorklund was born June 28, 1940 at Benson to Ole and Florence (Fox) Anderson. She graduated from Benson High School in 1958 and then attended Glenwood Hills Nursing School. Joan married Allan Bjorklund on March 5, 1960 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. They lived in Minneapolis and in 1970 moved to Clontarf and then to Morris in 1975. Joan and Allan moved to the Blomkest/Lake Lillian area in 2004. Joan had been employed at a hospital in Minneapolis, nursing homes in Benson, Hoffman and Barrett and most recently for Spectrum Home Health Services in Willmar. Joan had enjoyed traveling with Allan in his semi, raising horses, crocheting, doing ceramics work, watching her grandson race, and especially spending time with her family. A special thanks from Joan's family to Willmar Commons Nursing Home where she had recently resided and also to Rice Dialysis.

Joan is survived by her husband, Allan, her three children: Lori (and Neil) Henriksen of Benson, Scott (and fiancé Venus) Bjorklund of Elbow Lake, and Annette (and John) Wallert of Draper, UT; her eight grandchildren: Sara (Muhammad) Aamir, Sandy (Marshall) Jones, Steven (fiancé Miranda) Henriksen, Ashley (significant other Derek) Henriksen, Monica (fiancé Jake) Hueseth, Allan S. Bjorklund, Justin Bjorklund, and Kala (special friend Ryan) Barber; her great-granddaughter Daisy Peterson; special friend Renae Peterson and her friends from Spectrum Home Health Care.
