John Fitzgerald, age 94, passed away at his home on Sept. 10, 2009.
John Michael Fitzgerald was born April 29,1915 in Hancock, the son of John and Mary (Carlson) Fitzgerald. He grew up on a farm in Hancock. He graduated from Hancock High School and continued his education at the University of Minnesota where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. After graduating he farmed near Hancock.
On July 27,1941 John was united in marriage to Ida Stange in Morris. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Hancock until 1984 when they retired and moved to Morris. He enjoyed reading newspapers, touring the countryside watching the crops, church dinners, playing cards, and visiting friends.
John was a member of Assumption Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was, until recent years, active as Church usher and money counter.
His survivors include daughter, MaryJeanne (Gary) Jernberg of North Mankato, sons Michael (Suzette) Fitzgerald of Morris and Mark (Susan) Fitzgerald of Hancock, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
John is preceded in death by his wife, Ida, his parents, one sister and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at Assumption Church in Morris on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 with the Reverend Tim Baltes officiating. Pallbearers arre Mary Jeanne Jernberg and Michael Fitzgerald. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren. Music is provided by Ken and Linda Hodgson. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Morris.
