Jonny Lang's younger sister on 'American Idol'
Another month, another woman with Fargo roots making her mark in reality TV.
This time, the focus is on a higher profile as former Fargo resident Jesse Langseth is among the final 36 competitors singing on "American Idol."
Langseth might be more familiar to people as Jesse Lang, the kid sister of former Fargo blues wunderkind Jonny Lang. She's been making her own music for the past five years or so with a backing band. But in a video posted on the "Idol" Web site, www.americanidol.com, Langseth has added the extra syllable and is going by her given name while trying to win over the infamously snarky Simon Cowell and the rest of the "Idol" judges as the singers make their way through the "Hollywood" round of the singing competition.
Now living in Minneapolis, Langseth uses an introductory video on the "Idol" site to reference her musical career (with no mention of that famous older brother) and admit that her friends and family urged her to audition for the reality show.
"I said, 'Yeah, I should do that,' " Langseth says.
"American Idol" airs at 7 tonight and Wednesday on Fox, Channel 10 in Fargo and Moorhead. And while there is no guarantee, there is a chance Langseth could be featured on either of this week's episodes.
Langseth's "Idol" appearance follows the recent run of Detroit Lakes, Minn., native and former Fargo resident Abbi Noah on the VH1 reality show "Real Chance of Love."
