MORRIS – Judi Carr, organizer of Widows on Wednesday, is the most recent Stevens County resident recognized by “Pay it Forward, Stevens County.”


Members of Widows on Wednesday and the Pay it Forward, Stevens County organizing committee surprised Carr at choir rehearsal at Assumption Catholic Church on Sunday, June 23 to present her with the award. Carr also serves on the parish council and plays piano for the church choir.

In their nomination letters, the members of Widows on Wednesday praised Judi's kind sprit and organizational prowess in putting together the group, which helps alleviate the grief and loneliness that many of the women faced after losing their husbands.

“She is a shining star to the widows in Morris,” wrote Marilyn Varnum. “She brings happiness, joy and a sense of worth by her caring and loving spirit as we meet every Wednesday.”

“Judi is a great organizers and she presents many ideas for the meetings which are interesting and entertaining,” wrote Lillian Benkam. “She also makes many suggestions on how the WOW members can be helpful to the people in the community.”

“Judy is small in stature but might in doing good needs and helping others,” wrote another.

Pay it Forward, Stevens County is a program designed to reward individuals who make life better for other people in our community.

Pay it Forward, Stevens County is sponsored by Morris Pizza Ranch, Morris Sun Tribune, Bank of the West, West Central Screen and Print, the Regional Fitness Center, and KMRS/KKOK Radio Stations.

Nominations can be dropped off at any of the participating businesses. The committee will meet once per month to pick one person who best exemplifies paying it forward.

She earned a master's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2010. Prior to returning to Morris to work at the Sun Tribune, she worked in trade publishing.
