June Dahl was born on June 28, 1922, the fifth of eight children born to Paul and Sophie (Heubner) Zahl, in Morris. After graduating from Morris High School she spent two years in nurses training before marrying Warren C. Dahl on Jan. 16, 1943 in Bradenton, Fla. She and Warren then spent the next 28 years traveling the world, with three children in tow, courtesy of the US Air Force.
