Knights sneak past Tigers with double OT win at Morris
West Central Area upset the third seeded Tigers 62-61 in double overtime Thursday at Morris Area.
The Knights' Colton Blasyck's layup at the buzzer was good for a first-round win in the Section 6AA West quarterfinals. The No. 6 Knights advance to the semi-final game Saturday at UMM.
Cole Riley, who led the Tigers with 14 points, gave the Tigers a 61-60 lead with 17 seconds left in the second overtime.
In the first overtime, Eric Riley made a free throw with 3.4 seconds left to tie the score 55-55.
The Tigers led by as many as 10 points in the second half, before the Knights rallied to tie the game 50-50 at the end of regulation.
Cole Riley also grabbed 12 rebounds. Eric Riley and Cody Cannon supplied 11 points apiece, while Alex Erickson added nine, Riley Arndt had eight, Mac Kampmeier contributed six, and Daniel Tiernan had two.
The teams shot equally from the field with the Tigers hitting 25 of 56 and the Knights going 25-of-57. The Tigers didn't hit a single three-point shot, while the Knights put up seven.
At the free-throw line, the Tigers made 11 of 20 and the Knights were 5-of-11.
The Tigers outrebounded the Knights 37-25.
The Tigers' season ends with a 17-8 oveall record.
The Knights will now take on Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. The Thunder defeated Staples-Motley 69-44 to advance to the semi-final game.
Meanwhile, Minnewaska advanced with a 69-40 win over Osakis and Breckenridge upset Benson 66-64.
