Knights take down Cougars
UMM Sports Information
Wartburg 76, UM-Morris 26
Sunday is usually a day of rest, but not for the University of Minnesota Morris Cougar womens' basketball team as they traveled to Waverly Iowa for a tough matchup against Wartburg College on Sunday, Dec. 8. The Minnesota Morris Cougars proved to be no match for the Knights as the Cougars fell 76-26 on the road to Wartburg College.
Tori Holt finished with seven points on 3-5 shooting on the night, one shy of her season high.
Wartburg was able to gain control early, holding the Cougars scoreless for the first six minutes and built up a 13-0 lead. Brooke Decker got Morris on the board 13 minutes into the game with a layup, but the Knights did not let the Cougars get going offensively.
Holt had four of the Cougars first eight points as the freshman hit her open looks.
The Knights defense stymied the Cougars for most of the night and found themselves with a hot stroke offensively, shooting over 50.0 percent in the game. Wartburg also did a good job taking care of the ball, turning it over just eight times.
Minnesota Morris will be on the road again on Monday, Dec. 9, taking on Wisconsin Eau-Clarie at 7 p.m.
