Late score helps Tiger JV football team down Minnewaska Area
Junior quarterback Mitch Kill ran for a touchdown and threw for the winning score with less than three minutes left as the Morris Area junior varsity football team defeated Minnewaska Area 14-6 on Monday at Big Cat Stadium, in Morris.
The Tigers JV evened their record at 1-1.
Kill ran 7 yards for the game's first TD and completed a pass to Tim Ostby for the 2-point conversion in the first quarter.
In the fourth, Kill hit Ostby again on a 6-yard pass play that put the Tigers up by eight.
"Kill played an error-free game," said Tigers JV coach Ken Gagner.
"This was a hard-fought game and the kids were dog tired at the end of it," he said.
Morris Area forced three turnovers, with Brody Bahr intercepting a pass and Austin Thielke and Taylor Hufford recovering fumbles.
Wade Ehlers recorded three quarterback sacks, Jordan Fletcher had one sack, and Tyler Moser and Thielke registered solid hits defensively.
Gagner said the Tigers running game made the difference, with Ostby and Fletcher running well, and offensive and defensive line players such as Justin Stallman, Hufford, Moser, Eric Wulf, Patrick Uphoff, Ehlers, Tyler Montonye, Thielke and Taylor Kramer. Wide receiver Brian Miller also did a solid job blocking downfield, Gagner said.
"It was an exciting an exciting win with a big home crowd," Gagner said.
