LaVerne B. Kopitzke was born on April 1, 1927 on a farm near Swift Falls, MN to Adolph and Serena (Syverson) Hagen. A hard worker, she left home at an early age and began a career that included cooking for the Morris School system and the hospital, where she worked for 24 years. She was also a wonderful caregiver for most of her life, taking care of many family members in her home.
A great cook and baker, she was infamous for her "little lunches" which would usually consist of two or three meats, a salad, homemade buns and your choice of three desserts. Followed of course by a fresh pot of egg coffee! The pot was always on, and she made everyone feel comfortable in her home.
LaVerne was a good friend, and she attracted good people. Her closest friends and neighbors included Joan Strand, Irene Erickson, Cal and Jan Bumgardner, Jan Trumble, Marilyn Varnum, Marlene Seip, and the Dolhaff family. True friends, they were always there for her, and helped to create many enjoyable memories.
LaVerne B. Kopitzke, age 87, of Morris passed away on August 14, 2014 following complications from cancer surgery.
She was also a wonderful wife and mother. LaVerne is survived by her son, Bill Kopitzke of Houston, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her sister and brother-in-law Ann and John Sorset, and two brothers, Clinton and Kermit Hagen.
LaVerne will be greatly missed. Her family thanks her for the gifts she shared with them: her devotion to family; her love of nature and gardening; her sharing of knowledge; humility; kindness; value of responsibility to others; humor; intelligence; and her model of faith, hard work and perseverance.
