The Morris Legion Post 29 baseball team improved to 5-0 in District 7, defeating Clinton and Brandon-Evansville last week. The wins put Post 29's overall record at 6-3.
Post 29 took on Clinton Monday, June 21 at Chizek Field in Morris and came away with a 9-1 win.
Three Morris pitchers, Alex Erickson, Nate Gades, and Travis Rinkenberger, combined on a five-hitter, walking just one and striking out 9.
Post 29 scored three times in the first on an RBI double off of the bat of Tyler Hansen, an error on a grounder by Dustin Sauter, and a sacrifice fly by Brady Valnes.
Another run scored in the second when Gades singled and scored on an error. They added a run in the third when Ryan Beyer led off with a double and scored on a single by Cole Riley.
In the fourth Hansen reached on an error and scored on a double by Sauter.
Clinton scored in the top of the sixth when Nordly doubled and Doop singled him in off of Rinkenberger.
Post 29 rounded out the scoring with three in the sixth. Hansen scored on a sacrifice fly that was misplayed off of the bat of Dan Kolden, Sauter scored when Valnes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Evan Schultz drove in Beyer with the final run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
On June 25 Post 29 traveled to Brandon-Evansville and came home victorious with an 18-5 win in five innings of play.
Morris scored eight runs in the second and nine more in the third. They added their final run in the fourth.
Gades pitched the first three innings, facing just nine batters for the win. Valnes and Sauter finished up on the mound. There was plenty of offense in this game as Post 29 banged out 14 hits. Sauter and Mitch Kill had three each and Valnes, Gades, and Hansen each had two. Sauter, Eric Riley, Valnes and Gades drove in three runs each. Rinkenberger walked three times and scored twice.
