Legion drops play-in game to Bellingham
Bellingham scored three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on for a 6-4 win over Morris in the play-in game of the District 7 Northwest Section tournament Monday night at Chizek Field.
The Morris Legion baseball team ends the season 12-10. Bellingham moves on in the tournament to play Thursday night at Wheaton.
With the game tied at three, Bellingham's Eric Croatt singled to center where the ball got by center fielder Matt Wohlers scoring two runs. When the ball got away on a throw to third, Croatt scored as well.
Morris did score one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk to Tallack Dosdall. The game ended with three runners on base.
Darrick Henrichs led Morris with two hits, two runs scored, and three stolen bases. Tony Schultz, Dustin Sauter, Nate Gades, and Dosdall had one hit apiece. Schultz and Dosdall each drove in one run.
Kirby Sayles pitched four innings allowing six hits, three earned runs, and one walk. Schultz pitched three allowing two hits and three unearned runs, while striking out three.
