Legion Post 29 opens season 2-0
The Morris American Legion Post 29 baseball team has a 2-0 record to start the season with wins over Chokio and Clinton.
Morris travels to Ortonville Monday night to take on Bellingham.
The season opened Monday at Chizek Field when Morris hosted Chokio.
Matt Wohlers' two-run double in the fourth inning lifted Morris to a 2-1 win.
Wohlers had two hits and Josh Griffith had three to lead the Morris offense. Mike Siegel, Dustin Sauter, Darrick Henrichs, and Danton Hein each had a hit for Morris.
Nate Gibson led Chokio with two hits and drove in a run with a second-inning single.
Sauter picked up the win going five innings allowing six hits, one earned run, with no walks and a strike out.
Nate Gades pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the save.
A three-run first inning, including Sauter's two-run triple, helped Morris to a 12-2 win in six innings over Clinton on Thursday at Chizek.
All nine starters reached base for Morris and eight had at least one hit as Post 29 pounded out 14 hits. Morris scored five more in the third, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth.
Tony Schultz's two-run single in the sixth ended the game early.
Wohlers and Sauter had three hits apiece. Schultz and Kirby Sayles each had two hits. Schultz, Sayles, Sauter, and Gades all drove in two runs.
Gades picked up the win going six innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs with two walks and seven strike outs.
Clinton scored a run on a delayed double steal in the third and another in the fifth.
