Legion team improves to 2-1
Morris Legion Post 29 improved to 2-1 on the season with an 8-1 win over Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night at Chizek Field in Morris.
Alex Erickson got the win, pitching the first six innings, allowing the one run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Tyler Hansen struck out the side in the seventh.
Post 29 struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. Erickson singled with one out and stole second. Hansen then drew a walk and a double steal moved up the runners and Erickson scored when the throw to third base went into left field. Hansen scored when a return throw from the catcher got away from the pitcher in a Mitch Kill at bat.
Morris added three more runs in each of the third and fourth innings. Tanner Picht reached on an error to lead off the third and Erickson walked. Cole Riley scored Picht with a one-out single and another single by Brady Valnes scored Erickson. Riley scored on a Kill ground out.
In the fourth, Aaron Vold reached by getting hit with a pitch to lead off the inning. Ethan Bruer hit into a fielder's choice and then stole second and third. Picht scored Bruer with a double and he scored when Erickson reached on an error. Hansen then reached on another fielder's choice and Riley hit a long double to center to score Hansen.
Brandon-Evansville scored their run on an Aaron Lund double in the top of the sixth.
Riley led the offense for Post 29 with a 3-for-4 showing and two RBIs.
