Stefan Lemke, a 2010 graduate of Morris Area, is a Hengstler-Ranweiler Award nominee. The award is presented by the West Central Tribune of Willmar.
The award is given annually to the area's outstanding male and female high school athletes. It is named after Lefty Ranweiler and Herb Hengstler, two longtime sports editors at the Tribune.
This year, there are 20 male nominees and 15 female nominees. Winners will be announced on June 10.
Lemke was a three-sport athlete through high school, participating in cross country, swimming, and track and field.
He was a two-time state entrant in cross country, finishing 13th his senior year. At the section meet, he placed seventh as a junior and first as a senior.
Lemke lettered all six years in swimming. He holds the school record in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, and 500 freestyle. He qualified for state in two events in both his junior and senior seasons. He took third in the 200 and fourth in the 500 as a junior. He placed seventh in the 500 and eighth in the 200 this past season.
Also a six-time letterwinner in track, Lemke competed in three events at the state meet as a junior. He placed sixth in the 1600-meter run, sixth in the 800, and was part of the 4X400 relay team that finished seventh. He will return to the state meet this weekend.
