Lemke returns to state
The Morris Area Stingrays competed in the Boys' Section 3A Swimming and Diving Championships this past Friday and Saturday in Hutchinson.
For the second consecutive year, Stefan Lemke has qualified to swim in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle individual events at the 2009 State Class A Swimming and Diving Championships beginning this Friday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
The host Hutchinson Tigers won the team championship with Fergus Falls coming in second.
Coach Tim Brooks was pleased as his swimmers set season-best times in 11 different individual events, as well as in all three relay events.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Otto Kildegaard (backstroke, 34.00), Roy Reese (breaststroke, 39.76), Gage Anderson (butterfly, 38.70), and Jacob Erickson (freestyle, 27.88) came in with a season-best time of 2:20.34.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Austin Schieler cut 5.05 seconds to finish with a season-best time of 2:04.76. Also, Lemke finished second in this event with a season-best time of 1:48.35. This qualifies Lemke for the State meet in this event as well as lowering his own MAHS team record time in this event.
Vaughn Dieter competed in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly events and finished with a pair of season-best times of 3:28.92 and 1:42.16, respectively.
In the 50-yard freestyle, both Kildegaard and Jason Rinkenberger swam for season-best times with 27.49 and 30.69, respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle, both Schieler and Reese came in with season-best times of 55.46 and 59.31, respectively.
Lemke won the 500-yard freestyle for the second year in a row with a season-best time of 5:02.93. This qualifies Lemke for the State meet in this event as well as lowering his own MAHS team record time in this event.
In the 200 free relay, the team of Schieler (25.10), Reese (26.01), Kildegaard (26.69), and Lemke (22.98) finished with a season-best time of 1:40.78.
In the 100-yard backstroke, both Reese and Erickson swam for season-best times of 1:11.42 and 1:21.60, respectively.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Schieler (56.05), Reese (59.55), Kildegaard (59.50), and Lemke (53.38) finished with a season-best time of 3:52.31.
Erickson participated in the diving preliminaries and scored 55.10 points.
