Letter: Thanks for those who attended Steger Event

Email

On Sunday, Sept. 15, two hundred plus people came to Granite Falls to hear the international speaker and polar explorer Will Steger and J. Drake Hamilton from Fresh Energy speak on Clean Energy, Climate and Health. There were people participating from Marshall to Willmar and Morris to Renville. This public forum was hosted by the Will Steger Foundation, Fresh Energy, Clean Up the River Environment (CURE), Land Stewardship Project and other regional strategic partners.  What was really amazing was the number of young adults that attended. There were students from Marshall High School, Lac qui Parle Valley High School, Yellow Medicine East High School, Southwest Minnesota State University and MPIRG Students from the University of Minnesota, Morris.

House Representatives Andrew Falk and Mary Sawatzky were in attendance along with city council representatives, Dave Smiglewski, the major of Granite Falls, and Dr. Richard Shrubb from Minnesota West Technical College. The diversity in the audience from age to community representation was very encouraging as we continue to work on making the Upper Minnesota River Watershed a healthier place to live.

Special thanks to Granite Falls Lutheran Outreach Team. They did an amazing job and made everyone feel welcome.

Look for more events in the future around clean energy options, the impact on climate and how we can make a difference and how both impact our overall health.

Thank you to everyone who gave up a Sunday evening to join us.
