Citizens need to remain informed, involved in jail proceedings
It was not by chance that the local jail project was delayed 90 days. In reality, the project has NOT been stopped. Taxpayer dollars continue to be spent even though a citizen advisory committe has been formed. The Committee will be meeting weekly until May 15, when hopefully an objective factual report to the commissioners can be hammered out.
We ask you to continue to be vigilant and follow these proceedings. Ask the important questions which will affect your future in Stevens County for the next 20 years.
In today's hectic world, it is very easy to get preoccupied with our daily tasks and lose sight of the really important issues. In the past, we have relied on trust to see that our hard earned tax dollars got spent wisely. Now more than ever, it is imperative to have accountability, especially at home. Hopefully, the report will echo what we have said all along: Stevens County does NOT need a jail.
