Thankful for

faithful dissent

As ELCA Lutherans get bullied by pastors, and pastors get bullied by bishops, let's all remember to thank God for faithful dissent. When those of the "liberal persuasion" (i.e. theologically not politically liberal) think that churches should overrule Scripture, redefine marriage, ignore the sanctity of life, deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ as the only Way, Truth, and Life, feminize the hymnal by removing all male pronouns for God and any language of warfare, and promote endless political/social issues, as "the mission of the Gospel" I think that they are confused, and I faithfully dissent. Because the Church is not "theirs" or "ours" to do with as we please. The Church is the glorious Body of Jesus Christ in the world today as Scripture declares (no matter your opinion of it) redeemed by His blood and sent to provide His unconditional grace and salvation to a world lost in the night of its own rebellion. Saints Peter and Paul never heard of America, or of the Democratic or Republican parties. When it comes to "doing Church" we leave our party affiliation at the door, and enter the KINGSHIP of Jesus Christ, whom Christians for ages have acknowledged as their King of kings, and Lord of lords, who shall reign forever and ever...when life in this world is folded up. The news is, the King is coming "to judge the living and the dead". And the fact that he doesn't have your "vote", doesn't make Him any less the King, it only makes you a rebel against the King.

Anti-American Democrats

Contrary to what Obama and Democrats claimed in September, the Senate version of the health care bill passed just before Christmas, does in fact include taxpayer funded abortions and is staunchly supported by Obama. Unlike the House version, no amendment to restrict taxpayer funded abortions was able to pass in the Democrat-controlled Senate. Now that the house bill and Senate bill have to be reconciled, Congress is avoiding the typical open conference. Instead, Pelosi and Reid are working in secret this week with President Obama and violating Obama's promise for transparency.

Obama's promise of bipartisanship was also broken. Republicans offered common sense solutions such as tort reform and allowing insurance companies to sell across state lines, just to name a few. Not only did Democrats and Obama not listen to these ideas, but they even falsely accused Republicans of not wanting health care reform and not having any ideas, simply because Republicans disagreed with their nonsensical ideas which don't solve the problems and add more to our already unsustainable national debt, in spite of what they are trying to tell you and me by using Madoff-style numbers when calculating costs.

America is supposed to have a government of the people, by the people and for the people. About 72 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortions. A 62 percent majority of Americans oppose the current health care proposals which also raises taxes, rations care, reduces quality and limits individual liberty. Yet it seems that Democrats are determined to jam this sham through.

If you are one of those 72 percent or 62 percent, are you raising your voice to your Representative and Senators? Are you going to remember this anti-American behavior when it comes time to vote in November? For the sake of our country, I certainly hope and pray so.
