Please replace planter

This past Memorial Day weekend, our family members respectfully placed, at the Hancock Cemetery, a potted plant on our dad's gravesite.

When family members arrived Saturday, they discovered that the planter was missing.

You have disrespected our family's resting place and the tribute we placed on our dad's gravesite, as he was a Veteran and a loved one.

If you're reading this, please replace the planter and you'll feel better and we will forgive you.

Do the right thing and learn to respect people...treat others as you would want to be treated. If you do this, your life will be enriched and much happier.

Stay off Highway 9

The new Highway 9 is really nice, but when you see signs that say it's closed, why do people travel on them! I didn't like the pot holes so why can't people stay off the road and let the workers do their jobs?

Think of freedom when bells ring

Last Sunday, May 29, at 11 a.m., I stood at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery waiting for the changing of the guard.

The Carillion Bells struck eleven times and then the National Anthem echoed over the thousands of graves on a warm and humid day in Washington,D.C..

I thought then that in Morris, Carillion Bells were striking 10 times, and I hoped the same song was playing across Summit and Calvary cemeteries to honor our military men and women buried there.

Then I turned to see words on a sign: "While these bells ring, safety rest, freedom lives."

And it occurred to me that if a foreign power ever controlled us, neither the Star Spangler Banner, nor probably any religious song, would be allowed to play at Arlington Cemetery or at Summit and Calvary cemeteries in Morris.

So, the next time you hear the Carillion Bells in Morris, think of the servicemen buried in these two cemeteries, and be thankful for your freedom.
