John J. Hennen, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hennen Sr. of Morris, will be graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota at commencement exercises June 13. John will graduate with “distinction” from the School of Business Administration and with “high distinction” in Agricultural Engineering. John has accepted a position with the John Deere Co. in Ottumwa, Iowa to design and improve hay-making machinery. He is a graduate of the West Central School at Morris, being an honor student at the WCSA also.
Soldiers and airmen of Minnesota's National Guard units, among which will be Co. M of Morris, will move to three field training centers to open the summer training season Sunday, according to Major General J.E. Nelson, state adjutant general. Some 4500 officers and men, most of them recently returned from two years of active service in the Army and Air Force, will move by truck, bus and plane. Training will continue for 15 days until June 28.
Miss Diane Larson of Morris received her bachelor of arts degree from Carleton College, Northfield, Monday June 8. She is the daughter of Mrs. Esther Kroening of Morris.

Items taken from the Tribune of June 7, 1973Flying Farmers from the states of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin and the Canadian province of Manitoba—comprising Region 5 of the International Flying Farmers—will meet at the Sunwood Inn in Morris June 8 and 9, for their 27th annual convention. Mrs. Richard (Martha) Sommer of Morris is the Minnesota Flying Farmers Queen and will be the official hostess for the convention. Speaking at the ladies' luncheon Saturday will be Mrs. Ward Voorhees of Morris. Saturday afternoon's activities will include a tour of the West Central Experiment Station. The queen's coronation banquet will highlight Saturday evening. Charles Schmidt of Morris is the MFF director from the North Central District.
Perhaps the biggest news story in any soybean-growing area in recent weeks has been the wild upward climb of the soybean market and yesterday the local soybean price was quoted at an almost unbelievable $11.48 per bushel, about three times what they had been a year ago. But the high grain market really isn't doing farmers all that much good. In soybeans, for instance, there are really very few in the hands of farmers and available for sale.
A building permit for Country Kitchens, Inc. was authorized by the Morris city council at a special meeting held Tuesday morning. The Country Kitchen Restaurant will be erected at the site of the old Northern Pacific railroad depot at East Eighth Street and Atlantic Avenue in Morris.
Neil Thielke of Morris has been named manager of the Country Club Terrace, Morris, it was announced recently. Thielke is a 1971 graduate of Morris High School.The new swimming pool at the University of Minnesota, Morris is now open to the public. All area residents are invited to participate in the recreational swim program.

Items taken from the Sun of June 1, 1993East coast job from Morris, via technology—Chris Lembcke Schmidt and her husband, Tone, decided to move their family back to Morris—their home town, but Chris's employer is in Norfolk, Va. Thanks to information technology, Schmidt didn't have to leave the East Coast job she has held for 18 years. From her new home, midcontinent, she continues to work as a financial manager for Russell Realty Associates of Norfolk, Va. Last July, Schmidt moved not only her household, but a completely equipped office to Morris.
Luella Rathke poured a cup of coffee in her newly remodeled kitchen at Grandview Apartments. The Morris Housing Authority will hold an open house to show the newly-remodeled Grandview Apartments June 6. A one-bedroom, studio and handicapped accessible apartment will be open. The five phase remodeling will cost about $2 million when it is complete. The first and second phases included new insulation, windows, appliances, cupboards, flooring and light fixtures. Future plans include remodeling of the community room and kitchen, repair of the parking lot and addition of landscaping.
