MA/C-A sends 19 trapshooters to Championships
Week four and five conclude the regular season for trapshooting for Morris Area / Chokio-Alberta.
This week is a fun week and coach / advisor Nick Milbrandt hopes to teach the kids some different ways of shooting. There will be 19 kids who attending the 2014 Championship in Alexandris on June 6-10. From there, the student athletes can then qualify for the State Tournament.
This year is special because Minnesota is the first and only state high school athletic association in America to sanction a trapshooting tournament. The Minnesota State High School League approved a presenting partner state tournament with the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League for June 14, 2014.
Much like tennis and cross country, there are team qualifications and individual competitions for the MSHSL State Tournament. The number of top finishing teams qualify for the tournament from each day of the 2014 Championship in Alexandria June 6-10 was determined by the number of conferences in each Class that are designated for each day of the Championship. MA/C-A is Class AAAA and the Championships are set for Monday, June 9 and the top three teams qualify. Individually, the top 100 plus ties using the regular season average. The individual must have competed in all five weeks of competition. The State Tournament will be comprised of four rounds of 25 targets each.
The 19 shooters from MA/C-A are John Buendgen, Brittany Cardwell, Jarrett Carlsen, Mitch DeBuhr, Lindsay Flogstad, Kourtney Giese, Hannah Harste, Sam Henrichs, Austin Hills, Cole Kannegeisser, Blake Koser, Kyler Koubsky, Philip Messner, Austin Millard, Briar Peterson, Delia Sanasack, Tim Travis, Regan Vig, and Austin White.
High scorers from week four action were Mitch DeBuhr (43), Sam Henrichs (41), Russell Lindahl (40) and Isaac Wente (40).
High scorers from week five were Wyatt Ehrp (43), Collin Sletten (41), Austin White (39), and Philip Messner (38).
