Man sentenced to jail for fifth DWI charge
A Detroit Lakes man was sentenced Thursday in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of first degree driving while intoxicated.
Dale Ray Edwards, 39, of 16179 305th Ave., Detroit Lakes, was sentenced to 48 months at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility, stayed on conditions including completion of seven years supervised probation, 365 days in jail and payment of $1,545 in court fines and fees. Edwards may serve a portion of his sentence through electronic home monitoring, and may also pay his fines through Sentence to Service (STS).
The charge against Edwards stemmed from a May 22, 2009, traffic stop on Washington Avenue in Detroit Lakes. The officer making the stop smelled alcohol on Edwards' breath and also noticed an open 12-pack of beer on the passenger seat next to him.
Edwards had been convicted of DWI on four prior occasions between 2000-06, and had also had his driver's license cancelled.
