Mattson pitches three-hit shut out at YME
Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta has won nine out of the last 10 baseball games, defeating Yellow Medicine East 1-0 Tuesday.
The Tigers' Sam Mattson and the Sting's Austin Thorstad were both in command on the mound.
"Sam Mattson pitched a gem in a three-hit shutout to win our 10th of the year," said coach Mark Torgerson.
The only runner crossing the plate was in the top of the third. Tanner Picht's hard double into the wind coming over the right-field wall scored Bryce Jergenson, who had walked, from second base.
Runners still were on second with no out, but Thorstad pitched out of the jam.
YME loaded the sacks with one out in the sixth.
"Our defense did commit three errors, but Sam pitched out of a bases-loaded jam thanks to a double play turned by Jacob Torgerson at shortstop.
"Tyler Henrichs reached base twice with a double and a walk.
"We want to stay hot as the playoffs are approaching," added Torgerson.
Thorstad finished with a five-hitter and Mattson a four-hitter.
