Mattson's no-hitter edges Montevideo
Sam Mattson was dominant all night long as he pitched a no hitter against visitor Montevideo on Wednesday, June 25. Mattson gave up no hits, walked one while striking out 15 batters, facing two over the minimum due to a walk and error.
Eldon Evans, Montevideo pitcher, was equally impressive. He gave up 2 hits walked one, HBP 1 and struck out 16 Eagles. He faced 4 over the minimum. Evans has signed to pitch with the SDSU Jackrabbits this fall.
Eagles got a hit each from Mitch Carbert and Kirby Marquart in the 1-0 victory.
The lone run scored was a first and third situation that saw Marquart get in a rundown between first and second, Picht who was on third scored when the throw from the catcher sailed into centerfield.
Saturday, June 28 Morris will host Rosen at 3 p.m. at Chizek Field in Morris. Then right after the Rosen game, the Eagles will resume a suspended game with Minneota that was started earlier this year with the score being 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning with runners on first and second with two outs for Minneota and Morris leading. The 7-2 Eagles then play their next games on the road in Ortonville on Sunday, June 29 and Dawson on Wednesday, July 2.
