Mayville downs Cougars on both courts

Mayville State defeated the University of Minnesota, Morris men's basketball team twice, first at Lewy Lee Field House on Saturday, and again Monday night at the P.E. Center in Morris.

Mayville 82

UM-Morris 78

Mayville overcame a 13-point deficit in the first half to defeat the Cougars 82-78 Saturday in Mayville in non-conference college men's basketball action.

After scoring 51 points in the first half for a five-point lead at the break, the Cougars were held to just 27 second-half points.

Junior Eric Dalbey led the way with a game-high 21 points. He was a perfect 10 of 10 at the free-throw line.

Sophomore Daniel Fragodt added 14 points, was 6-for-6 at the free-throw line, and stole five balls

Junior Kendall Proell added 12 points and led the Cougars with four assists.

Freshmen Zach Meyer and Mitch Primus had 10 points apiece. Meyer was also 6-for-6 at the line.

Also scoring were Jeremy Bosch with six, Clay Fischer with three, and Kyle Bruns with two.

Bruns led the team at the boards with five rebounds.

UM-Morris 73

In Morris Monday night, the Cougars started out slow leading to a 92-73 loss.

UMM was only shooting at 39.3 percent (11-28) in the first half, and although the Cougars caught up to the Comets' pace in the second half with 48.3 percent shooting, it was too late to come back.

While every Cougar scored, Dalbey led the team again with 19 points, going 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. He also recorded four assists.

Bruns added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Primus had nine points and led the team with three blocks.

Fragodt added eight points and seven rebounds.

Proell had six points and seven rebounds.

Jamin Ivers had five points, Meyer and Fischer had four points apiece, while Bosch, John Hammer, and Chris Haglin all added two.

The Cougars travel to Bethany Lutheran Friday and Martin Luther Saturday to begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play.
