The Morris Benson Area girls' hockey team continues to amass incredible offensive prowess, averaging 6.3 goals per game and outscoring their opponents 118-36 this season.
Dani Schultz, a senior center, leads the state in goals (58) and total points (94), three more than Taylor Kuehl of Mound-Westonka. Schultz went over the 300-point mark for her career earlier in the season.
Sara Rajewsky, a senior wing, is currently third in the state in scoring with 76 points (37 goals, 39 assists). She passed the 200-point mark for her career recently.
Senior goalie Brooke Falk has recorded her fifth shutout of the season. She is 14-3 this season with a .923 save percantage and a 1.96 goals-against-average.
Consider that even thought the three aforementioned are teammates on an excellent team, they won't graduate together. Schultz will graduate from Morris Area this spring, while Rajewsky will graduate with her Benson classmates, and Falk with her Minnewaska Area classmates.
Morris Benson Area is 18-3 on the season. While the team has six seniors on the roster (Monica Lindblad, Sam Falk and Kelly Mahoney are the others), there are no junior or sophomores and just one freshman. Mahoney has two eighthgraders and six seventhgraders that fill out the roster. MBA head coach Jeff Mahoney recorded his 100th career win on Jan. 18, a 10-2 victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek.
"The young kids are getting some good experience by skating with these older girls," said Mahoney. "It's working out well. After the seniors, we are a very young team and they have made some mistakes. But they are improving every game."
