LITCHFIELD -- Three off-duty sheriff's deputies and fully equipped squad cars left Litchfield around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning to help law enforcement officials in Wadena County, where a tornado ripped through Wadena Thursday evening.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty is due to view the damage from the air and then meet with local officials this afternoon. The public is being urged to stay away from the heavily damaged areas of Wadena and travelers are asked to find alternate routes to Highway 10.
According to a news release from Meeker County Sheriff Jeff Norlin, he received a request from Wadena County Sheriff Mike Carr for additional deputies to respond to calls for service and other duties in the storm ravaged area. The preliminary assignment for the Meeker County deputies is through the weekend.
