Metzger, Harrison capture titles in Tigers' season opener

Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta traveled to Belgrade for the annual Jaguar Wrestling Tournament on Friday where the Tigers captured two titles and a sixth-place finish.

Gone this season are the Tigers' two state entrants from last year, but the Tigers brought a full team led by four seniors.  The rest of the team was rounded out by four juniors, four sophomores, one freshman, and one eighth grader.

The Tigers placed only two wrestlers in the finals, but both captured titles.  Senior Connor Metzger captured the 170-pound championship with a pin over Matt Schmitz of Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in 1:30.  Connor pinned all three of his opponents on his way to the title. 

Fellow senior Joel Harrison won the title at 220 pounds.  He defeated Brandon Knisley of New London/Spicer 3-0 in the championship.  He pinned his only other opponent Trey Cox of Quad County in 3:53 in the semi-finals. 

Travis Ostby placed third at 126 pounds with a fall over Zach Kluver of Quad County in 2:04 and was 3-1 on the day.

Alec Gausman placed third at 195 pounds with a win over Darius O'Neil of Willmar 4-2. Gausman was 1-1 on the day.

Dillan Johnson placed fourth at 138 pounds with a loss to Kirby Wilson of Quad County 4-0 and finished 2-2 on the day.

Jared Rohloff at 106 pounds went 1-2.

At 113 pounds Matt Munsterman went 0-2.

Mitchell Ascheman at 120 pounds went 0-2.

At 132 pounds Evan Nelson went 1-2.

Myles Smith went 1-2 at 145 pounds .

Jordan Thooft went 1-2 at 152 pounds.

Aaron Nelson at 182 pounds went 0-2.

At 285 pounds Jacob Sperr went 0-2.

The Tigers finished in sixth place as a team with 84 points.  New London-Spice captured the team title with 201 points.  The point totals were as follows:
