Dillan Johnson and Connor Metzger represented the Morris Area/Hancock/Chokio-Alberta Tigers at the 2013 Minnesota State High School Wrestling Tournament.

The top 16 wrestlers in each weight class compete for the state title.

Metzger placed fifth place, while Johnson was knocked out of the tournament after winning his first match.

A senior at Morris Area High School, Metzger entered the tournament with a 30-6 record and ranked No. 9 in the state.  He was the Section 3AA runner up at 170 pounds.

Metzger’s run to the fifth-place finish started with a 9-4 win over Jordan Heldman of Staples-Motley.  This was a rematch of the third-place match at the Big Bear Tournament in Cass Lake.  Metzger won that match against Heldman, too.  His reward for beating Heldman was a showdown with the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the state, Nick Wanzek of Simley.

Wanzek had a 41-0 record coming into the tournament.  Metzger lost by a technical fall 17-2 and Wanzek went on to win the championship.

In the first round of wrestlebacks, Metzger defeated the No. 4 ranked wrestler in the state, Zach Gehloff of Waseca 5-3.  He then defeated the No. 2 ranked wrestler, Miles Hammerlund of Delano, 12-11 with a last-second takedown.  In the consolation semi-final match Metzger lost to the No. 5 ranked wrestler Corben Hansen of Kasson-Mantorville 5-0.  This put him into the match for fifth place where he defeated Bobby Lee of Becker by a fall in 3:09.

Metzger finished his season with a 34-8 record.

A junior at Chokio-Alberta High School, Johnson entered the tournament unranked with a 28-11 record.  He was the Section 3AA Champion at 138 pounds.

In the opening round Johnson defeated Christian Wellens of Richfield 16-3.  In the quarter-final match he lost to No. 6 ranked Mason Brownlee of Tri-City Cleveland by a technical fall 18-3.  Then in the first round of wrestlebacks, Johnson lost an 11-2 decision to No. 9 ranked Andy Jackson of South St. Paul.

Johnson finished his season with a 29-13 record.
