Milbank's buzzer shot sinks Tiger girls at home
The Morris/Chokio-Alberta girls' basketball team suffered through a tough non-conference game against Milbank, S.D,, on Monday, losing 48-47 on a last-second shot.
The Tigers led by 11 at the half and 13 in the second half, but Milbank's McKenzie Mertens took a pass under the basket and made a shot at the buzzer.
"Both teams started really cold," explained coach Dale Henrich. "The Bulldogs called the first time five minutes into the game and we were ahead 3-0.
"The Dogs were big and outrebounded us 39-36," added Henrich. "We shot poorly. At halftime we were shooting 11 percent, and were 16-of-49 at the end of the game.
"With 1.9 seconds left in the game, the Dogs inbounded the ball and scored at the buzzer," said Henrich. "It was a deflating end to the game."
Katie Holzheimer scored 15 points and a season-high eight rebounds. Beth Holland added 10 points and six assists. Tracy Meichsner had seven points, seven boards, and two assists.
