Mildred H. "Millie" Berg, 95, of Ellsworth, Wis., died peacefully Monday, March 30, 2009 in the town of El Paso, at the home of her son Norris and his family.

Millie was born the daughter of Arthur and Aurora (Lundquist) Kuhn, Sr., on March 3, 1914 in Red Wing, Minn. Her family owned Kuhn Drug in Red Wing for 55 years. Millie attended schools in Red Wing and married Cecil Berg on Jan. 6, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing.

Cecil managed several creameries in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wyoming. Throughout her life, Millie was an avid china painter and taught china painting lessons wherever they lived. Prior to her marriage, Millie had painted a complete 12-place set of dinnerware. She also enjoyed her job as a waitress, until she officially retired at the age of 89.

Active past the age of 90, Millie enjoyed a good cup of coffee, a cookie and the friendship of everyone. She was a past or current member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club, Order of Eastern Star,

WELCA, Altar Guild, Homemakers, TOPS and a 30 year member of KOPS, quilters and newcomers clubs where ever she lived.

In addition, Millie was a volunteer and available to help any person or organization. They never had to ask, she was always there to volunteer. In recognition of her volunteer activities, Millie was one of two outstanding Senior Citizens of Becker County, Minnesota in 1998, earning herself a trip to the Minnesota State Fair. She was able to accomplish this with the help of her coffee club friends, as she never had a driver's license.

Millie was a traveler, and enjoyed trips to Germany for the birth of her first granddaughter and New Jersey for the birth of her first grandson, She enjoyed visits with her brothers and sister in New York, Iowa, North Carolina and Arizona. She also visited her granddaughter when she was in Hawaii for nursing training.

Millie's favorite time of the year was the week of the 4th of July. Her brothers, sister, relatives and extended families had traveled to Brainerd to the same lake and resort for over 65 years.

Surviving Millie are her son, Norris (Kay) Berg of Ellsworth, Wis.; two granddaughters; six great grandchildren; brothers Robert L. Kuhn of Sun City, Ariz., and Paul F. Kuhn of Brainerd; as well as a cousin and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Millie in death were her husband, Cecil; daughter, Nancy C. Berg; sister, Joan Olson; and brother, Arthur M. Kuhn, Jr.

Funeral services for Millie were held Saturday, April 4, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Beldenville, Wis.

Pallbearers included nephews David Kuhn, Arnie Berg, Walter Nahrgang and Steven Nahrgang; grand nephews Tim Kuhn and Duane Kuhn; and great grandchildren Amanda Reeder and Joshua Reeder.

Honorary pallbearers were Jim Hamilton, Kit Feuerhelm, Denny Matthews, Jim Kuhn and Bob Veglahn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred sent to Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Ellsworth, Wis., was entrusted with arrangements.
