Olmsted County Sheriff's Sgt. Tom Claymon says Deianerah Logan of Pine Island struck the back of the bus Tuesday afternoon as it stopped to let a student off on a county road.

Firefighters pulled the van from under the bus and extricated Logan from the vehicle. A Mayo Clinic helicopter flew her to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, where she died.

Logan — nicknamed "Deej" — was a student at Byron Public Schools in southeastern Minnesota.

Superintendent Jeff Elstad tells the Post-Bulletin of Rochester the mood at school is "very somber"

The school bus driver and the two students on the bus were not hurt.
