A late game surge came a little too late and missed opportunities cost the University of Minnesota, Morris (12-7, 6-2 UMAC) on Tuesday night. The Crown College Storm (9-10, 6-2 UMAC) started out hot from the field and the Cougars could not complete the comeback, falling 74-71.

The Storm jumped out to a 6-0 lead after sinking their first two of many three-point baskets, and kept in control of the game since.

In the last thirty seconds of the first half, the Cougars made a pair of free throws from Joe Roggenbuck. Following that possession, the Storm's Tom Messner sunk a three-point field goal from the corner. With only four seconds left on the clock, Cody Emrick went coast-to-coast and sunk a three-point field goal as the time expired, cutting the lead to nine at 39-30.

It was a tale of three-point field goals for Crown in the first half. They were 8-18 and shot 44.4 percent from behind the arc. Leading the way for the Cougars was Emrick with 11 points on 4-5 shooting from the field.

The Cougars could not carve into the lead starting the second half, missing some key free throws in their losing effort.

Emrick led the the Cougars with 17 points and Reller grabbed nine rebounds. In the end, the Cougars finished the game just 16-29 from the free throw stripe.

The Cougars move onto 12-7 on the season and 6-2 in the UMAC. There is now a three way tie atop the UMAC with six games left in the regular season. The Cougars will now host North Central and Northwestern this weekend on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, respectively.
