Montevideo Council gives green light to motorcycle run
MONTEVIDEO -- City Council members in Montevideo gave the green light to a motorcycle run in the community this summer.
The council action Monday welcomes 250 to 500 riders expected to participate in the American Legion Legacy Run on Aug. 22. Council members approved the request for free camping and the use of Lagoon and Smith Parks, according to City Manager Steve Jones.
The Legacy Run is a fundraising event for scholarships. The scholarships are provided the children of active duty servicemen and women killed on or after Sept. 11, 2001.
The American Legion Riders Post 59 of Montevideo is hosting the event, according to information provided the council by Paul Rice, post secretary.
Many of the riders are expected to stay at motels in the city as well as at the Training and Community Center, but a number have also expressed interest in camping.
Council members also agreed to set aside time next Monday to review the city's policies concerning liquor sales, with all issues, including bar closing times, on the table.
