Morris 12U heads to state championship in Owatonna

The Morris 12U baseball team is taking an undefeated season to the 2009 Minnesota Sports Federation baseball state championship this weekend in Owatonna.

The 12U team will be playing in Owatonna's B tourney Saturday with an 11 a.m. match up with Lake Elmo and a 3 p.m. game with Belle Plaine. The championship is set for Sunday at 3:45 p.m.

The Morris team qualified for the state championship with a first-place showing at its own tournament June 20-21. Morris opened the tournament by defeating Lac qui Parle Valley 17-2. They won the next game against New London-Spicer 12-2. In the finals, Morris defeated Benson 23-7. With a second-place finish, Benson also qualified for the state tournament.

Morris opened the season in Benson with a 13-8 victory. They hosted Minnewaska July 15 and won 15-4. At Kerkhoven Saturday, Morris was victorious 23-4.

A scheduled game in Fergus Falls was rained out Monday.
