Last season saw a new volleyball coach for Morris Area and this year brings some new players with the addition of Chokio-Alberta.

Head coach Caleb Greene said the transition has not been a problem. He said the new players actually fit into six positions that needed to be filled.

Greene said this season has been easier.

"I know the girls," he said. "They know what to expect from me."

Because of that, the team gets the most out of practice time.

Heather Montonye returns as Greene's assistant, along with a newcomer to the program, Mandi Koehntop.

Last season, the Tigers finished second in the West Central Conference South with a 10-2 record and were 18-7 overall.

This season, Greene expects Benson and BOLD to be competitive. Seven of the Tigers' eight seniors bring a lot of varsity experience to the court.

Senior captains are Shadow Olson, Erin Schieler, and Dani Schultz.

Schieler is the middle hitter, with Olson and Schultz on the outside.

Schieler had 266 kills last season, along with 40 ace blocks.

Schultz finished with 78 kills, 278 assists, and 298 digs.

Olson had 77 kills and 100 digs.

Kelsey Loew plays the right side.

MacKenzie Weatherly and Haley Scheldorf will share the job of setter. Weatherly was Morris Area's setter last season, while Scheldorf started for the Titans.

"Experience in setting never hurts," said Greene.

Senior Kelsey DeCamp is a defensive specialist.

Senior Carrie Roske will focus on defense this season as libero. Last year she had 70 kills and 301 digs.

Other players on the varsity include Courtney Ehleringer, Emily Tonn, Terianne Itzen, and Sydney Engebretson.

Greene said the Tigers will need to do three things, and do them well, to succeed this season.

"In order for us to be successful this year, we need to pass, serve, and move our feet at every single game," said Greene. "If they do those three things, they can be a great team."

The Tigers host Paynesville for their home opener Tuesday.
