It was a fantastic Summer Recreation session! Our Summer Recreation program went into full swing on Monday, June 9. On that day, we started the Pee Wee program, the gymnastics program, the T-ball program, tennis lessons, had a pitcher/catcher camp, and held our first of two Hershey Track meets.

During the Summer 2014 session we added two teams to our JO Softball League. On Tuesday evenings, we had six 14U softball teams and eleven 18U teams competing in our JO Summer Softball League. In talking with the Marshall softball coordinator he stated that their only options for playing in a softball league came down to either Morris or Sioux Falls, S.D. On those Tuesday evenings, we hosted thirteen teams in Morris and the other four teams played in either Minnewaska, Raymond, or Granite Falls.

On Tuesday, July 22 one of the Morris 18U teams earned silver medals for second place and the other 18U team took home the consolation championship.  Way to go Tigers! For more on the sucess of Morris’ 18U teams, see page 1B.

We had 95 elementary girls playing on eight different teams in our Elementary Softball League this summer as well. It is exciting for us to see athletes and families traveling from many neighboring towns to play in this league.  Please join me in offering a special thank you to D&G Drainage, Willie’s SuperValu, Morris Co-op, Monson Motors, Pedersen Granite Products, Raths Brothers Construction, Ag Country, and Superior Industries for sponsoring those eight teams. We likewise had great parent volunteers coaching these teams. The eight head coaches were Todd Hottovy, Mark Anderson, Susan Flogstad, Jay Dietz, Brad Zimmel, Matt Carrington, Craig Swanson, and Rich Hardy. Thank you coaches and sponsors.

Fifty-five athletes registered for our Hershey Track program this summer. Our first invitational meet was on Monday, June 9 and the second on Thursday, June 19. We also had athletes compete in both the district and state Hershey Track meets. Great work athletes!

Pee Wee baseball, tennis, golf, and gymnastics had a combined 295 registrations during our Summer 2014 session. We appreciate your support for our Summer Recreation Program and look forward to a full Fall 2014 session. Go Tigers!
