MINNEAPOLIS – Morris Area FFA was recognized during the second general session of the 84th Minnesota FFA Convention for taking second place in a state-wide agricultural literacy challenge.

The 2012-2013 Minnesota FFA State Officer team challenged chapters throughout the year to conduct agricultural literacy programs. Chapters were encouraged to log their hours and activities to participate in the competition against other chapters throughout the state.

In total, 19 FFA chapters from across the state were recognized during the session, themed “Dare to Achieve” – Buffalo, Cedar Mountain, Foley, Forest Lake, Hawley, Herman-Norcross, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Hutchinson, Martin County West, Milaca, Morris Area, Norman County West, Princeton, Sleepy Eye, Spring Valley-Wykoff and Springfield.

Placing third in the agricultural literacy challenge was Hutchinson FFA, second was Morris Area FFA and placing first was Martin County West FFA.

Chapters were also recognized for their donations to the Minnesota FFA Foundation.

The second general session concluded with an address from the 25th anniversary state FFA officer team: Charles Krause, Dan Sorum, Barbara Van Zomeren, Kristy Pankonin, Joan Stevermer and Brian Hegland.

The 84th Minnesota FFA Convention was held April 28-30 in St. Paul and drew 3,000-plus FFA members, advisors and guests from across the state.
