Morris Area to look for interim superintendent

MORRIS – The Morris Area School Board voted Monday to look for an interim superintendent for the 2014 – 2015 school year and conduct a full superintendent search next spring.

The full board authorized a superintendent search committee – Kurt Gartland, Robyn Vap Eps, Dick Metzger, and Doug Stahman – to proceed with the search and bring forward a recommended candidate.

Committee members believe that, based on the timing of the search, they will get better long-term candidates by waiting to start looking for a permanent superintendent in January or February.

The search committee has elected to take a two-pronged approach to the search for an interim superintendent – posting the position themselves and working with School Administrative Specialty Services, a company owned by Ray Farwell that contracts superintendent services with districts.

The committee will review applications next Tuesday and plans to conduct interviews next week. If all goes as planned, they may have a recommendation for the school board at their July 21 board meeting.
