Morris Area's cats pounce on Bulldogs

The Morris Area boys' basketball team came back from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Paynesville 69-59 Thursday at home.

The Tigers trailed 37-32 at the break, but outscored the Bulldogs 37-22 in the second half.

The Tigers out shot the Bulldogs by 20 percent from the field. The Tigers were 24-of-50 (48 percent), while the Bulldogs were 18-of-64 (28.1 percent).

At the free-throw line the Tigers hit 18 of 32 attempts. The Bulldogs were 11-of-16.

The Bulldogs stayed in the game with 12 three-point baskets (12-25). For the Tigers, Chris Scott, Cory Hennen, and Tyler Meichsner each made one from three-point range.

Paynesville's Nathan Nietfeld scored his 1,000th career point on a free-throw early in the second half.

Three Tigers were in double figures in the scoring column. Scott with 18 points, Jackson Henrich with 17, and Lincoln Arnold with 12 paced the Tigers' comeback.

Also scoring were Hennen with eight, Meichsner and Corey Nohl with five apiece, and Taylor Nohl and Josh Love with two each.

Scott, Arnold, and Henrich also led in rebounds with eighth, seven, and six, respectively.

Meichsner dished out five assists to lead the Tigers.
