MORRIS — The Morris Benson Area boys' hockey team outshot Breckenridge by more than 40, but it took three third-period goals before the Storm could relax and enjoy a 5-2 win over the Blades in the opening round of the Section 6A tournament on Saturday.
The Storm improved to 16-9 overall and will play a quarterfinal-round game at top-seeded Little Falls at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
On Saturday, No. 8 MBA outshot the Blades 36-9 in the first two periods, with Tanner Picht putting the Storm on the board in the first period and Riley Blake giving the Storma 2-0 lead in the second.
The Blades cut the lead to one with a goal early in the third. After Brody Gimberlin regained the two-goal lead in the third, the Blades answered 14 seconds later to make it 3-2. Corey Goff and Brody Gimberlin went on to score goals to wrap up the victory.
In addition to his goal, Picht also picked up two assists. Andrew Rentz, Jordan Staples, and Taner Gimberlin had one assist each.
