Morris Legion splits in opening week of play
In its first week of play, the Morris American Legion baseball team opened with a loss at Detroit Lakes and a win over Benson at home.

Morris traveled to Detroit Lakes Tuesday and lost the first game of the season 13-4 at Washington Ballpark.
Morris used some aggressive batting at the plate to jump out to a 3-0 lead, before Max Bentley's three-run blast over centerfield tied it up in the second inning.
The Laker team went on to score four in the sixth and five in the bottom of the eighth.
Morris had three hits in the first two innings, but could only get two more hits for the remainder of the game.
The Lakers finished with nine hits and 11 total RBIs.
At home on Chizek Field Thursday night, the Morris Legion picked up its first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Benson.
Dustin Sauter scattered nine hits over seven innings and picked up two of the five hits offensively to lead Morris in a District 7, South Division game.
The right-hander allowed one earned run with ten strikeouts and no walks.
Matt Wohlers, Tanner Berning, and Jordan Fletcher had the other three hits. Berning and Fletcher and Darrick Henrichs each drove in a run.
Brennen Kent was the tough luck loser for Benson. He allowed just the five hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out nine. Only one of the runs was earned.
Cam Simmonds and Jake Manska each had two hits for Benson.
