Local racers have been making an impact all season at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, but none of the area racers made a stop at victory lane on a night sponsored by Bobcat and Prairie Trailer, both of Morris.

Jeff Flaten of Hancock had the best finish of local racers placing fourth in the Super Stock feature. Jason Thoennes of Garfield, who is sponsored by local businesses, took fifth in the Modified featured.

Thoennes is the only local racer to take a trip down victory lane this season, taking first-place honors on July 11. He has also taken three third-place finishes, two fourth, and two other fifth-place finishes.

Flaten has placed as high as second this season at Viking on two occasions: May 23 and May 30. He also came in third three times, while finishing fourth in three other feature races.

Shawn Kirwin, racing in the Late Model division, has taken second place three times this season. Twice he placed fifth.

Dave Storck had a second-place finish in the Modified feature on May 23.

Brian Haben of Holloway, a student at Morris Area High School, took second place on July 11 in the Midwest Modified division. He has also placed third four times, as well as earning two fourth-place finishes, and two fifth-place finishes.

Terry Engebretson of Cyrus took second place on May 30 in the Modified feature.

Matt Smith of Morris has placed as high as fourth on June 20 in the Midwest Modified division.

Kyle Koehntop had a fourth-place finish on May 16 in the Modified feature.

Alan Johnson of Osakis, formerly of Donnelly, placed fifth racing Super Stock on May 30.

Other area racers are also having success at the 1/2 mile dirt track.
