The Morris 1 softball team won the Morris 18 and under league tournament on Tuesday.
"The team put things together at the right time and played outstanding softball," said coach Mike Weatherly.
Morris 1 entered the tournament as the No. 6 seed.
Morris One 4
Morris 1 defeated No. 3 Dawson in the first game of the night 4-0.
MacKenzie Weatherly was stellar on the mound giving up no runs, two hits and striking out 13 in the five-inning game. Megan Mecklenburg, Dani Schultz, Olivia Reimers, and Jaimie Bergerson all had hits.
Morris One 3
In the second game Morris 1 defeated No. 9 Alexandria 3-1. Alexandria had upset the No. 2 seed Benson earlier in the night.
Haley Henrichs had a great night at the plate gathering two hits. Schultz, Hannah Sayles, Reimers and Holly Amundson also had hits. Sayles drove in two runs with a big hit in the bottom of the fourth. Schultz also had an RBI.
Weatherly was tough on the mound again allowing one run, three hits, and striking out 11.
Morris One 2
In the championship game Morris 1 defeated No. 1 Willmar 2-1.
"This was a very exciting game between two very good teams," said Weatherly.
Morris scored first on a double by Henrichs, a perfect sacrifice bunt by Mecklenburg, and a hit by Schultz.
In the top of the third Courtney Ehleringer led off the inning with a triple and then scored the winning run.
Willmar scored their run in the bottom of the third.
Weatherly had the only other Morris hit.
Weatherly gained her third win of the night giving up one unearned run, five hits, and striking out 10.
