The Morris VFW Post 5039 baseball team improved its District 5 record to 3-0 with a 12-8 win over Madison on Friday in Morris.

Tyler Hansen picked up the pitching win, going 6-2/3 innings, giving up five earned run on nine hits, four walks, and he struck out nine. Eric Riley got the last out on a strikeout.

Post 5039 got seven runs in the third inning with the big blows being a Travis Rinkenberger RBI single, an RBI double by Alex Erickson, a two-RBI double by Hansen, and Ryan Beyer capped off the inning with a two-run homer over the left field fence.

Morris added two more runs in the third when Erickson and Tanner Berning had RBI singles, and they widened the lead to 12-2, scoring three runs in the fourth. Jon Jallo, and Erickson drove in runs in the fourth. 

Madison started to chip away at the Morris lead, scoring one in the fifth to prevent the game from ending by the ten-run rule, and they added two more in the sixth and three in the seventh for the final score of 12-8. Rinkenberger was 3-for-3 on the day, Erickson was 3-for-5, and Hansen and Beyer each were 2-for- 4 as Morris pounded out 14 hits.

In the second game, Joey Schreck of Madison pitched a one-hitter as they defeated Post 5039 by a score of 4-1. Evan Schultz started for Morris and took the loss, giving up three runs in two innings of work. Mitch Kill, Berning, and Brady Valnes each worked an inning in relief.

Morris got the only run in the fifth when Beyer reached on an error, stole second, and scored on a Berning single.
