Morris/CA goes 3-0 at own invitational
MORRIS -- By collecting two wins at its own invite Saturday, Morris/Chokio-Alberta remained unbeaten and improved to 8-0.
The Tigers opened its day by edging Pelican Rapids 4-1 as Sam Mattson and Evan Schultz limited the Vikings to just two hits. Morris/Chokio-Alberta had beaten Pelican Rapids 17-5 the day before.
MACCRAY then beat the Vikings 14-4 in five innings behind a nine-run fourth inning and Jarrod Holmgren's four RBIs.
The tournament wrapped up with the Tigers thrashing MACCRAY (5-2) 11-1 in five innings. Tyler Hansen ignited a 10-run surge for the Tigers with a bases-clearing double in a six-run second inning.

Jarrod Holmgren drove in four runs for the third straight game for the Wolverines, rapping a two-run single in the first inning, an RBI groundout in the second and a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Holmgren, Jamie Boonstra, Riley Aeikens and Seth Hinrichs had two hits apiece. Hinrichs had a triple and drove in two runs.
Ethan Price worked four innings for the win in the five-inning game. He allowed just one hit and two runs (one earned), while walking two and striking out two. Alex Wrede pitched an inning of relief.

Mattson struck out seven and surrendered just a double and single as the Vikings' lone run was produced on a groundout in the first inning. Evan Schultz secured the win by throwing a perfect fifth.
Alex Erickson was 3-for-3 and scored the go-ahead run for Morris/Chokio-Alberta when he came home on a double steal attempt in the third.
Erickson also had an RBI single in the third and Hansen singled in another run in the fourth.

Erickson had his streak of getting a hit in 10 consecutive at-bats snapped, but the senior later singled and drove in a run to help the Tigers handed MACCRAY only its second loss of the season. Erickson's average over the last four games was .857 (12-for-14).
Cole Riley's single down the third-base line with two outs in the fifth knocked in Ryan Beyer and invoked the 10-run rule.
Mitch Kill worked the first four innings, giving up three hits and striking out four, to earn the win.
The Wolverines' lone run came in the fourth when Darren Westerman's groundout drove in Holmgren.
