A tornado watch is issued when conditions are favorable for the development of tornadoes, and are normally issued well in advance for the actual occurrence of severe weather.

The National Weather Service has also issued a hazardous weather outlook for the area over the next several days. Thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon across central and western Minnesota, then move east. There is a slight risk of sever thunderstorms, including large hail and damaging winds.

Thunderstorms are expected to continue through Wednesday morning, and possibly the rest of the week.
