To celebrate, a community open house is planned for Tuesday, August 25 from 4 to 8 p.m.

Located at 1410 South McKay Avenue, the 550-student school will welcome its first group of students when school begins in September.

The new school facility also houses an early education center, and district and community education offices.

The completion of Woodland Elementary marks the conclusion of the "Phase I Facility Plan," a $24.5 million bond measure approved by voters in September 2007.

The building referendum provided funding for the construction of Woodland Elementary, an early education center (connected to the elementary school), health-and-safety improvements at Garfield Elementary, and the purchase of land for a future high school.

The open house event is relaxed and informal, with no presentations, note school leaders. A dedication and ribbon-cutting will occur in October.

All community members are invited to stop by to stroll the building, see the grounds and visit with staff.

Light refreshments will be served.
